Ministry of Found Dance and Music Exchange

England played a pivotal role in spreading house music throughout Europe in the 90’s and this past weekend the Ministry of Found brought those elements back to Dray Walk off of Bricklane.

The event, which took place the 1st & 2nd of April,  was the culmination of Yell’s Pop-Up Enterprise campaign and paid homage to the iconic era through dance lessons, live DJ sessions, Q&As and vinyl sales.

The record collection sold and exchanged was a nostalgic mix of rare 90s EPs and more mainstream titles like The Prodigy’s Experience. People were able to rummage through old records, uncovering and purchasing some old school favourites or exchanging them with their own vinyls.

For every purchase made, customers were asked to drop a token into a fishbowl of their choice, each representing a Yell charity partnerOxfamJamie Oliver Foundation and Centre Point.

In association with Mixmag, dancing lessons from professionals picked up where the 90s left off and renewed the likes of the ‘big fish, little fish’.  There were also informative Q&A sessions with Empty Shops Network founder Dan Thompson and Hacienda legend Graeme Park.

It was all kicked off Thursday night with a launch party that included performances  from the legendary Utah Saints and 808 State DJs.

An electric, energetic atmosphere paired with a free coffee led many to come through the pop-up doors to peruse and reminisce over what maybe the best decade for dance music to date.
